In Defense of the Frozen Margarita

frozen-margarita
It goes without saying that margarita purists believe that frozen margaritas are inferior to their more authentic ‘on the rocks’ counterpart.

And to a certain extent, I understand where the traditionalists are coming from. There are a lot of Anglo-fied—i.e. watered-down—versions of Mexican cuisine that should never have seen the light of day.

But here’s my problem with the purists’ take: frozen margs are delicious. Tradition aside, they are a delightful beverage that, on a hot summer evening, no one in their right mind would turn down.

Authenticity is a wonderful thing, but so too are innovation and variety, and the frozen marg is just another great way to serve tequila, lime and sugar.

Let me add a caveat: cloyingly sweet frozen margaritas I will not abide. But if you serve up a marg that has that perfect blend of sweet and sour, well, I’ll be raising my glass to you!
