Warm cocktails to add to your menu this season

A warm cinnamon cocktail

As the weather gets colder, there’s nothing like warm cocktails on a cozy, dark night, at home or out with friends in a comfortable bar or restaurant. This season think about adding a few to your menu for dine-in, take-out (if your state’s allowing it), or as a DIY kit for customers make at home.

In this post, we’ll take you through some of the classic hot cocktail recipes and highlight a few new twists to give you ideas for the best warm cocktails for your restaurant.

Spiked cider AKA warm apple pie

After a day of picking apples at the orchard – or on any cold, crisp day really – what would be better than a drink that reminds you of a warm apple pie? Start with fresh apple cider, add rum, cinnamon cloves, top with whipped cream, and you’re ready to enjoy. This drink is best served in a specialty glass to give it a rustic feel.

Mulled wine, two ways

Mulled wine is a classic, warmed over the stove with cinnamon, cloves, and orange slices. But have you ever thought about adding summer wines like rosés and sangrias? You’ll get a nice fruity flavor along with the comforting spice you want on a cold winter night. This is a great idea if you have a few unopened bottles leftover from the summer. Or go the opposite direction and lean into the flavors of the season: add cranberries. Nothing says “holiday drink” like cranberries. Both of these drinks look great in a stemless wine glass or a clear glass mug.

Warm coffee cocktail, any way you like it

There are so many possibilities here. Mocha and Irish cream, caramel or hazelnut and bourbon, peppermint and vodka. A hot coffee cocktail is the perfect pairing for dessert, brunch, or as a treat all on its own. These drinks are great in a traditional mug or a clear glass mug.

Hot buttered rum beverage

Hot. Buttered. Rum.

Yes, we’re suggesting you add melted butter to a drink. If you’ve never experienced the warm comfort of this drink before, just trust us. The “batter” is made with one stick of unsalted butter, ½ cup brown sugar, a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. You only need one ounce of the batter for two ounces of rum, so you can mix the batter and store it in the fridge for future drinks. Once you’ve got your batter and your rum in a glass, top with hot water and stir. This drink looks best in an old fashioned glass or a clear glass mug with a cinnamon stick for garnish.

Everyone’s cup of tea

Up your hot toddy with some fresh tea leaves. Hot tea cocktails can give herbaceous or spicy notes, using anything from chamomile to chai to peach and so many more. Really there are so many varieties of tea out there, you can steer the flavor profile however you want. Then add bourbon, brandy, whiskey, or schnapps depending on which way you choose to go with it.  A smaller glass tea or coffee cup works great for this.

So if you’re looking for warm alcoholic beverages to put on your menu this season, we hope these suggestions have inspired you. Hot drinks are perfect for cold days, especially when they’re warm cocktails.
