As you learned in The Waring Way, Waring has been making blenders since the early 1940s. Waring Commercial has done an excellent job with design innovations and I want to talk a little about the Waring 64 oz X-Treme Hi-Power Blender .

With a 3.5 HP motor and variable speed settings, this workhorse can quickly blend smoothies, salsas, dressings and soups. But can’t most blenders do that? Yes – but this one can do more. You can grate cheese or chocolate, separate olives from their pits, and even make dough!  What’s more, this is just one of many Waring blenders that we stock here at Tundra Restaurant Supply.   These blenders are Quick Ship Items and are guaranteed to ship next day!

As the warm weather approaches, I’ve been trying to think of some fresh new recipes for spring. I remembered a chilled soup my mom used to make that, at the time, I didn’t like because of its odd green color. I specifically remember her making it the first night I had a “boyfriend” over for dinner and he sort of just stared at it – confused. Now that I’m older and more mature, I know that she was making a lovely and delicate green pea soup.

She would have made this classic spring soup in a stock pot, and then blended it with a food processor or immersion blender. My thought was, how about in a blender? With an X-Treme Waring blender you could actually blend AND cook the soup at the same time. This blender is so strong that if you place raw veggies, aromatics, and a liquid in it for long enough, the friction generates enough heat to bring ingredients almost to the boiling point.  Give it a whirl!

Green Pea Soup

Adapted from wholeliving.com

Serves 4-6

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil, grapeseed oil, or vegetable oil
  • 2 shallots, peeled and sliced thin
  • 3 cups low sodium vegetable or chicken stock
  • 3 cups fresh peas, shelled, or (1) 16 oz bag of frozen peas, thawed
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup low-fat plain yogurt
  • ¼ cup sliced fresh mint, tarragon, or basil leaves

Directions

-Place all ingredients except the yogurt and herbs into your Waring X-Treme blender jar.  It’s best to place liquids in first, then everything else. Don’t forget to secure the lid!

-Switch the speed toggle to “Variable” and spin the dial between 1 and 3

-Blend for 30-60 seconds, until all ingredients are blended and a uniform liquid has formed

-Now move the dial to anywhere between 8 and 10 and blend for 3-5 minutes

-Stop the blender, remove the top. If you see steam escape, your soup is ready!  If not, blend 1 more minute or until you see the steam

-Before removing soup from blender, taste and adjust seasoning if needed

-You can now chill the soup, or serve hot right out of the blender

-Serve with a dollup of the yogurt and garnish with mint and tarragon

Vegetable pureeGive this recipe a try and keep in mind – you could use the same veggie to liquid ratio for many other soups as well.  Try reducing the liquid amount and you’ve got yourself a beautiful vegetable puree.  Or, grab yourself an extra blender pitcher, whip up some bread dough, and make a delicious side of bread for your new soup recipe!
