Another Guacamole Recipe for Cinco de Mayo

Guacamole with avocado on wooden table

Everyone has their favorite guacamole recipe that they like to share on Cinco de Mayo, and I’m no stranger to that.

I’d submit that most revelers don’t know the meaning of Cinco de Mayo other than a day of taco deals and guac recipes (spoiler: it’s a celebration to commemorate the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla), but who’s counting? Any holiday that brings people together and gives you an excuse to partake in delicious festivities is always a good time. And that’s the point of a celebration right? To have a good time.

So let’s have a good time.

And eat some guac.

GET ENTERPRISES – MOJ-802-BK – VIVA MEXICO 10 OZ MOLCAJETE BOWL

The best way to prepare your guac is with a molcajete like this one from GET Enterprises. These helpful tools aren’t just for presentation, when armed with a pestle you can adequately smush your garlic, onion and cilantro together to make an herbaceous paste, adding an almost umami-like flavor to your guac that makes guests week at the knees.

Now you may ask yourself, “Boy, this recipe just seems too easy. No charred tomatillos? No pepper-y bacon? What about smoked shallots?”

And I say, “Nope.”

Because really when it comes to good guacamole, simple is often best—and even better when paired with a good marg or shot of tequila! Cheers!
