The Indigo™ from Manitowoc

Manitowoc Indigo ice machines

For the past 15 years, Manitowoc Ice has won FE&S magazine’s Overall Best in Class for Ice Machines.

Manitowoc Ice engineers and designs its ice machines in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and then assembles them in a state of the art facility in Monterrey, Mexico.  The FDA considers ice a food product, and Manitowoc takes that fact very seriously. The company is dedicated to providing  ice machines that not only follow FDA regulations, but surpass them by using new technology and design geared towards fighting bacteria growth and preventing ice contamination. Manitowoc is also dedicated to the continuous design of ice machines that waste less energy and less water. That’s why you’ll see that most Manitowoc machines have earned the Energy Star® certification. But food safety and sustainability aren’t these ice machine’s only winning assets. After introducing the Q- and S- series, Manitowoc listened to customer feedback and discovered that, while high tech is nice, busy workers don’t have time to figure out what all those buttons mean, or remember when it’s time to clean their ice machine. It was time to design a new ice machine with improved intelligence that was still easy for anyone to use.

Popular among restaurants, cafeterias, and stadiums, Manitowoc’s Indigo™ series of ice machines feature some incredible Intelligence Diagnostics all aimed to make owning a massive ice machine a dream and not a nightmare.

Intelligence Diagnostics – It used to be that the only way to tell you have an empty ice bin was to open it up and look inside.  The Indigo’s diagnostics alert you of any problems with the sub system controls so you’re never left with zero ice on a busy summer night.  With the Indigo’s preventative diagnostics, you can skip calling a technician and just look at the screen! The machine will monitor and let you know if there are issues to address with the filter, water pressure, or operational temperature, and when it’s time for a cleaning.

Easy Read™ Display – The Indigo display screen is super easy to read and understand. The display communicates operational status, alerts, and reminders on a brightly lit indigo purple (of course) screen.

Ice Assurance – You never have to worry about the quantity or quality of ice being produced. Manitowoc has now introduced an acoustical ice sensing probe that listens for the sound profile of a completed ice sheet to assure a consistent ice thickness for every batch. To ensure water clarity, a water probe is used to monitor when water quality is poor and alerts you to address this.

Energy Management – Manitowoc Ice has been an Energy Star partner for a long time (in fact, it’s won Partner of the Year for the past 7 years!). The efficiency of an Indigo compressor translates to a cycle that is faster and wastes less energy than your average ice machine.

Another plus (to the earth AND your wallet) is the option to program your machine to produce different amounts of ice for different days or even time of the day.  You could also choose to adjust the bin level control to low, medium, or high which means the machine will stop producing once the bin gets to the desired level.

Service and Support – If you do end up needing to call in a technician for repairs, the Indigo ice machines save data from the past 7 days, so it’s easy for the service tech to diagnose the necessary fix and Manitowoc parts needed. A USB port on the control board allows you or a service tech to pull key stats on how the machine is operating. You can also use that USB port to upload the same settings and upgrades to multiple machines, rather than manually inputting to each machine.

At Tundra Restaurant Supply, we carry several sizes of the Indigo modular ice machines plus ice machine and bin combinations.  No matter the size, all Indigo ice machines come with the “shades of indigo” mentioned above.
