10 Kitchen Hacks from Tablecraft

Tablecraft has been offering professional kitchen supplies since 1946 when Adolf Davis and his son Dalton created the company in Chicago, IL. They started with a small selection of kitchen necessities including griddle supplies and ashtrays. Some years later, when they started using injection molding, Tablecraft began making baskets and bus boxes. You’ll recognize these red and black baskets as diner classics, and they are perhaps what Tablecraft is best known for. But the company has come a long way from french fry baskets and ashtrays. Today, Tablecraft has greatly expanded its product line to include creative buffet serving solutions, beverage dispensers, eclectic serveware, and other essential tabletop supplies.

Since you may already be familiar with Tablecraft products, let’s expand our imaginations and look at some fun new ways to organize your kitchen and add flare to your dining room using some of their classic kitchen tools.

1. A cutting board rack is small enough to fit inside cabinets and can hold much more than just cutting boards. Consider using one to manage large serving platters, baking sheets, and cooling racks as well!

2. A liquor pourer really is just a liquid pourer, so get creative! I’m picturing a whole new approach to oil and vinegar cruets using re-purposed (well-cleaned) glass soda bottles or really any bottle the pourer will fit into.

3. Typically, pastry chefs use pastry bags or a confectionery funnel for drizzling chocolate. While those tools help you control where the chocolate goes, you may find yourself without one of those tools. Or you might want to give your eclairs more of a free form, organic, chocolate drizzle. No problem! Just reach for your wire whisk, dunk in melted chocolate, and drizzle away.

4. Using your chef’s knife like a see-saw getting a little old? Try using a pizza cutter for chopping herbs instead!

5. Don’t you love those long, thin slices of parmesan on top of Caesar salads? Try using your trusty vegetable peeler to shave hard cheeses onto salad, soup or pasta.

6. Another pastry pro tip: Finish off that brownie platter by sprinkling powdered sugar on top! Don’t have a dredge? Just grab your fine mesh strainer.  P.S. You can also use that strainer to sift flour.

7. A potato masher doesn’t have to be limited to just potatoes. Grab your potato masher for crushing walnuts, breaking up ground meat or tofu, or mashing guacamole. This 24 inch Potato Masher could also be used to make decorative imprints on a cake!

Grate more than just cheese with a cheese grater!

8. You guessed it. You can grate more than just cheese with a cheese grater. Skip the mincing and grab your cheese grater for garlic, nutmeg, or ginger. Bonus tip: for the ginger, if you don’t plan to use all you have at once, go ahead and peel the whole piece (with a small spoon), wrap in cellophane, and place in the freezer.  It’s easier to grate frozen, plus will last longer!

9. Get creative with your Tablecraft beverage dispensers by going beyond water, tea and lemonade.  How about Sangria, Agua Fresca, or fresh Margaritas?  Serve with fresh fruit garnishes and ice on the side.

10. As with the all of these hacks, don’t let the name of the magnetic knife holder limit your imagination. After all, it is magnetic, right?  Try using it to store extra blender blades, bar tools, kitchen utensils, or even hold notes using binder clips.  Really anything that’s magnetic and not too big!

I hope you take some of these ideas into your kitchen, and if you find yourself needing new kitchen utensils, catering supplies, or tabletop accessories, check out everything Tablecraft has to offer!
